Lauren said that turning the sail made it rotate more than swing higher and lower. At one point during one of the rides it almost turned around backwards.

Here's a video that I took of her riding

Larson scooters are snappable, just in a different way. The trick is establishing a rhythm and building upon it a couple of revolutions. Also, some models have 2 speeds, with the slower speed actually making it harder to build up any slack.

We rode these flyers tonight and were unable to snap them. I'm not sure why, perhaps they are going too fast. I took a video that I'll upload and share soon.

what is a phlying Phlurpus? I have know idea, to me the tubs look pringle potato chips with cable wires hanging..Six flags always came up with odd names for rides.Back in 1986 six flags had a carnival ride called the round up. The spinning round cage that pins u against the wall and then the spinning round cage rises up and tilts, six flags decided to change the name to the Great American Force.

Since we posted this, we've discovered a little more info. First, this hybrid was "manufactured" by Tread Corp of Roanoke, VA who called it "The Flying Mouse." A 1974 trade ad said the company could "manufacture new car and fin sets for your old Flying Scooter." Tread Corp was founded in 1957 and manufactures over-sized mining equipment for the quarry industry. It's foray into the amusement industry appears short-lived, as Six Flags over Georgia seems to be the only park who purchased a Flying Mouse.

the phlying phlurpus was their a short while it did it's last spin in 1977, don't know why they took it down, u gonna have to ask six flags over georgia why. Ask someone who worked their during that time it's possible they could be workin their all theses years. I rode it once when i was 5 years old, but everytime we went their i never got the chance to ride it again and it was always in operation when i was there.

I visited Stricker's Grove for the first time on July 12 and to my disappointment, evidently the ride has been toned down this year. I was always able to snap cables at Kings Island but was unable to do it at Stricker's Grove. The ride has moved locations and now sits between the Tornado and the other little roller coaster. The operator told me that they don't have it running as fast as in previous years because if they crank it up the flying scooters can actually run into the wood of the Tornado coaster.

I'll probably head to Columbus Zoo to check out their ride. Hopefully it's a better experience.

Thought I'd let you know.

In looking once more at the image of "Queen of the Flying Rides" (above) I should mention that the original red and yellow cars for the Flying Scooter ride at Paragon Park flew counter-clockwise therefore the entry to the cars was on the opposite side as is being shown above. When Paragon Park had an enormous fire in 1963 and the 10 cars were destroyed (they were being stored in the Chateau Ballroom at the rear of the Park and that building was reduced to rubble) the replacement cars arrived with the entry to the cars exactly as shown above (and as I recall, I think they were blue and white). The cars then flew clockwise and as I understood it, the motor also had to be somehow reversed to allow the ride to function with it's intended safety first in mind. As an older teen my Flying Scooter days were on the wane so getting adjusted to the opposite direction flying was fast becoming a non-issue for me. ---------Danny Sordello
